As any person who has been married could tell you, making a marriage work can be very difficult. And in some cases, it can be impossible. Spouses may try to get through their problems with counseling or a short separation; but many couples in California find that their relationship is beyond repair and they decide to file for divorce.

There are no guarantees that a marriage will last, no matter how long a couple has been married. For example, readers may have learned about the recent split of Toni Tennille and Daryl Dragon, who are better known as The Captain and Tennille. After nearly 40 years of marriage, the couple recently announced that they are getting divorced. This story is a good reminder that not even love may be enough to keep a marriage together.

The couple rose to fame in the 1970s as a musical duo. They were married for 38 years before Tennille filed for divorce recently. According to reports, she stated that the marriage was irretrievably broken and says that like two people in any marriage, they changed over time and the marriage was no longer working.

Hopefully, their divorce will be amicable. They have no children, which could certainly make the process much easier, and there are no requests for any spousal support in place. According to the divorce petition, Tennille is asking that all their shared assets and debt be split up equally between the two.

But untangling decades of shared finances, properties and business interests can be complicated for any couple. That is why it can be helpful to work through this process with the help of an experienced family law attorney. With legal support, two people can negotiate a fair and equitable settlement.
