Joanne L. Gothard, Esq.

Joanne hails from Sonoma County, California. She received her bachelor’s degree in Comparative and World Literature from San Francisco State University. After graduation, Joanne obtained her paralegal certification and worked in the areas of Immigration and Family Law. Having gained legal experience, Joanne developed a strong desire to pursue a law degree and received a full-tuition academic scholarship to pursue her Juris Doctor at University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, where she graduated with great distinction.

While in law school, Joanne honed her legal writing skills as both a writer and editor on the law review and gained valuable legal research experience while holding positions such as Research Assistant to a prominent professor at McGeorge and Teaching Assistant for the legal research and writing course. Joanne also served as a legal extern at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California and the California Third District Court of Appeal, assisting judges in evaluating cases and writing draft court opinions. She also received multiple Witkin Awards for highest class grade, including Family Law. Joanne graduated in the top 10% of her class, earning her membership in Order of the Coif and Traynor Honor Society.

Prior to joining Bartholomew & Wasznicky LLP, Joanne obtained family law experience and knowledge working with other reputable firms in Sacramento and Sonoma Counties. Joanne began her career as a paralegal, transitioning to Law Clerk, and Certified Law Clerk, where she gained experience representing clients in court during her last year of law school. This practical experience informs her knowledge of the courts and allows her to help clients navigate the complexities of the family law system.

Joanne is passionate about advocating for her clients’ needs. With her guidance, compassion, and effective communication she zealously assists clients in solving their problems quickly and efficiently.

Outside of the office, Joanne enjoys everything the Sacramento area has to offer. You can find Joanne on her paddle board, hiking with her dog, trying a new restaurant, or snuggled up with a good book at home.
